This year, I continued to flout the rule that adults shouldn’t have advent calendars, and asked for an advent calendar. And I know it’s sacrilege, but I’m sort of sick of chocolate ones. You always know what’s behind the door (chocolate), and I never really feel like chocolate at 7am.
So instead I asked for a non-chocolate one. And I received this album-sized ‘dream snow’ calendar, featuring illustrations from Eric Carle, the author and illustrator behind The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
It’s a pop-up calendar, and this is what you get when you open it up.
Lie it flat to see all the different components.
There’s a pop-up Father Christmas delivering pop-up presents.
Each door reveals a new Christmas decoration…
…. Which has little tags so that you can hang on the pop-up tree.
Another door might reveal a Christmas gift
Which you put in a pop-up Christmas gift box.
It’s an utterly charming little diorama altogether.
And makes a lovely Christmas display. I’ll be asking for these calendars when I’m well into my dotage, I suspect. Well, weller into my dotage.
